Tuberosum Technologies Project

Little potatoes are growing in popularity across North America thanks to their convenience, nutrition, and reduced food waste. However, developing new potato varieties is still a slow and resource-intensive process. Tuberosum Technologies Inc., in partnership with the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) and the University of Saskatchewan, is working to change that by building a genomic selection platform that helps breeders develop elite small potato varieties. By combining field performance data with sophisticated genomic techniques, the Tuberosum Project aims to breed for specific traits and improve crop yield and quality.

Ultimately the Tuberosum Project will enable it’s commercial partners to maintain their first-mover advantage in the competitive agri-food marketplace. Tuberosum’s partners will benefit from having access to potato varieties that produce less food waste and are more climate change and pest resistant.”
