Programs Assistant – Summer Term

Join Genome Prairie as a Programs Assistant and play an active role in supporting project development, coordinating funding-related activities, and strengthening partnerships that contribute to meaningful genomics outcomes. This role offers hands-on experience working with cross-functional teams while supporting strategic initiatives that advance Genome Prairie’s growing portfolio of genomics projects.
Genome Prairie is seeking a motivated student to fill a full-time, term Programs Assistant position (April–August) at our Winnipeg office. Reporting to the Programs Team, the successful candidate will support project development, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge mobilization initiatives across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
In this role, you will help identify potential applicants for upcoming funding opportunities, assist with project logistics, support the implementation of knowledge mobilization plans, and contribute to the planning and delivery of Genome Prairie’s first Annual Genomics Symposium. Through this work, the Programs Assistant will help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Programs Team while contributing directly to Genome Prairie’s strategic objectives.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
• Identify potential applicants, companies, researchers, and organizations relevant to upcoming funding opportunities.
• Manage logistics for online and in-person meetings, including follow-up calls and document/proposal form sharing.
• Support the finalization and implementation of GenTrac Knowledge Mobilization plans in collaboration with the Programs Team and Manager of Stakeholder Relations.
• Assist with the development and execution of the first Annual Genomics Symposium.
• Update and maintain historical project information spreadsheets and stakeholder contact lists.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of Programs Team Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution in biology, agriculture, health sciences, business, or related field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, including proficiency with file management and Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel).
• Ability to process complex and confidential information with discretion.
• Foundational understanding of biology, agriculture, or health science courses and/or knowledge of business, project design, and the life sciences industry is an asset.
