Genome Prairie Appoints Dr. Lester Young as Director of Scientific Affairs

Genome Prairie announced today the appointment of Dr. Lester Young as its new Director of Scientific Affairs.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Young to the Genome Prairie team as Director of Scientific Affairs,” said Mike Cey, Genome Prairie CEO. “Lester brings deep plant science research and management experience in both the public and private sector.”

“We very much look forward to his leadership in developing and guiding the genomics-based research programs and projects in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.”

“I’m excited to be joining the energetic and committed team at Genome Prairie to both continue our already established projects in Saskatchewan and Manitoba and to initiate our upcoming Challenge Driven Initiative,” said Dr. Young.

“I look forward to working with the Genome Prairie team and the many excellent researchers in the prairie region.”

Lester brings more than twelve years of experience in successfully developing and managing plant genomics projects in academic and industrial settings. He has worked at the University of Saskatchewan, Canadian Light Source, Agrisoma Biociences Inc., Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, The Horticulture and Food Research Institute of New Zealand, and the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Food and was also an associate editor for The Canadian Journal of Plant Science.

Lester earned his Bachelor of Sciences (Honours) from Massey University in New Zealand and completed his MSc and PhD at the Department of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan. Lester also conducted postdoc research at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, as well as in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan.
